Why install roller shutters

Roller shutters do more than one job. Closed, they form a solid barrier over your windows that deters break-ins, blocks light and dulls outside noise. The insulated slats also keep heat out in summer and warmth in over winter, which takes pressure off your heating and cooling.

Security

A closed shutter is a strong physical deterrent. Most home break-ins come through unprotected windows, and a shutter takes that option off the table. The retained guide system is available where you want maximum holding strength.

Insulation and comfort

Each slat is a double walled cavity injected with insulating foam. That layer over your glass reduces heat transfer in both directions, blocks out light completely and noticeably dulls traffic and neighbourhood noise.

Weather protection

Hail, flying debris, driving rain and harsh sun all hit the shutter, not your windows. For higher risk locations the range includes a bushfire rated profile and a storm profile rated for category 3 winds.

The Rollashield range

We supply three Rollashield profiles, each built for a different job. All are Australian made, roll formed in Rollashield's Adelaide facility, the largest roller shutter manufacturing plant in the Southern Hemisphere.

Curved Series

The everyday choice for homes across Melbourne and the Peninsula. The curved slat is a double walled cavity injected with PU foam during roll forming, which gives it strength and insulation without bulk. The curve also adds lateral strength and rolls up tighter, so the head box on your wall stays compact.

Available in three slat styles: profile lines on the outside face, a smooth finish both sides, or profile lines both sides.

Good to know: suits openings up to 3.6m wide, 12 slat colours with matching head box colours.

Sentry Fireshield

A bushfire rated shutter for homes in fire prone areas, rated to BAL 40. The slat is rolled from 1mm gauge aluminium, around three times the thickness of a standard domestic shutter, so it also delivers a serious step up in strength and security. In independent fire testing the Sentry Fireshield showed no failure across the full 60 minute test, and these shutters have been credited with saving homes when surrounding properties were lost.

The profile has a clean look with a slight V groove line, finished in long lasting fade resistant coatings, natural anodised, or powder coated in a colour of your choice.

Good to know: BAL 40 rated, suits openings up to 5m wide with the retained guide system.

Stormshield

Built for exposed and high wind locations, Stormshield is rated for category 3 winds. High density foam is injected into the slat under controlled conditions during manufacture, giving the curtain far more rigidity than a standard shutter. It is the right choice for coastal properties, elevated sites and anywhere extra strength and security matter.

Stormshield comes in both retained and non retained guide options. The retained guide locks the curtain edges into the side channels for maximum wind holding strength.

Good to know: category 3 wind rated, suits openings up to 4.6m wide with the retained guide system.

Motorised operation as standard

Every roller shutter we install is motorised. Open and close your shutters at the touch of a button from a wall switch or hand held remote, with no straps or winders to wrestle with. Motorisation makes daily use effortless, especially on larger shutters and hard to reach windows, and it means the whole house can be secured in seconds.

We fit proven drive systems including the Ozroll E-Series and Somfy 240V motors with remote control. We will recommend the right option for your shutters at your free measure and quote.

Colours and finishes

Match your shutters to your home, not the other way around. The Curved Series comes in 12 slat colours, from White, Cream and Sand through to Woodland Grey, Deep Ocean Blue and Monument, with head box colours to suit. Sentry Fireshield adds a natural anodised finish and can be powder coated in a custom colour. We bring samples to your quote so you can see the colours against your own walls.

Frequently asked questions

Are roller shutters suitable for bushfire areas?

Yes. The Sentry Fireshield profile is rated to BAL 40 and showed no failure across the full 60 minute independent fire test. Burning embers entering through windows are a major cause of homes igniting during a bushfire, and a closed fire rated shutter removes that entry point.

Will roller shutters cut my energy bills?

They help. The foam filled slats add an insulating layer over your glass, reducing heat coming in through summer and warmth escaping in winter. Rollashield has invested in independent university testing and NatHERS energy rating software to verify the performance of its products.

Can I get manually operated shutters?

We supply our roller shutters motorised only. Motorised operation is more convenient day to day, avoids the wear issues of straps and winders, and lets you secure every shutter in the house in seconds.

How big can a single shutter be?

It depends on the profile. The Curved Series covers openings up to 3.6m wide. Stormshield extends to 4.6m and Sentry Fireshield to 5m with the retained guide system. Wider openings can usually be covered with multiple shutters, which we will configure at your measure and quote.
