Sheer curtains are a timeless window furnishing that brings softness, warmth and elegance to residential and commercial interiors. With their lightweight, translucent fabric, sheers allow natural light to flow through while gently filtering harsh glare and providing a comfortable level of daytime privacy.
AJL Blind Group supplies and installs premium sheer curtains that are custom-made to suit your windows, interior style and functional needs. As part of our comprehensive indoor living range, sheer curtains offer a refined and versatile solution for everyday living.
What are sheer curtains?
Sheer curtains are made from lightweight, semi-transparent fabric that drapes gracefully across windows and doors. Unlike heavier curtains or blinds, sheers are designed to diffuse sunlight rather than block it entirely, creating a bright and airy atmosphere while softening the view from outside.
Sheers can be used on their own for a minimalist look or layered with blockout curtains or roller blinds for complete light and privacy control from day to night.
Benefits of sheer curtains
Sheer curtains combine aesthetic appeal with practical function, making them one of the most versatile soft furnishing options for Australian homes.
Benefits
- Natural light control
- Australian Made
- Privacy with visibility
- Softens the room's look and feel
- Versatile design options
- Creates a spacious feel
- Easy to maintain
Natural light and ambiance
Sheers gently filter sunlight to create a warm, inviting atmosphere without the harshness of direct glare. They allow you to enjoy natural daylight throughout the day while reducing UV exposure on furniture and flooring.
Daytime privacy
The translucent weave of sheer fabric provides effective privacy during daylight hours, preventing clear views into your home while still allowing you to see out. This makes sheers particularly well suited to street-facing rooms and open-plan living areas.
Soft, elegant appearance
The flowing drape of sheer curtains adds a layer of sophistication and texture to any room. Whether your style is contemporary, coastal, classic or transitional, sheers create a polished look that complements a wide range of interior design schemes.
Temperature and airflow
Sheer curtains allow natural ventilation when windows are open, helping to maintain comfortable airflow. They also provide a light insulating layer that can reduce heat transfer through glass during warmer months.
UV protection
Quality sheer fabrics help to filter harmful UV rays, protecting your furniture, flooring and artwork from fading and sun damage over time.
Versatile styling
Sheers work beautifully on their own or as part of a layered window treatment. Pair them with blockout blinds for bedrooms, or with roller blinds for a dual-function setup that gives you full control over light and privacy. For a completely different approach to light control, venetian blinds and plantation shutters offer adjustable louvre options.

- Living rooms and open-plan areas

Fabric options for sheer curtains
AJL Blind Group offers a comprehensive range of sheer fabrics to suit different functional and aesthetic preferences.
Plain sheers
Classic plain sheers provide a clean, understated look that works with virtually any interior. Available in a wide range of colours from soft whites and creams through to bold contemporary tones.
Textured sheers
Textured sheer fabrics add depth and visual interest while maintaining their light-filtering properties. Linen-look, slub weave and subtle pattern options create a more layered, tactile feel.
Patterned sheers
For a decorative statement, patterned sheers feature embroidered, woven or printed designs that add character and individuality to your windows.
Semi-opaque sheers
Semi-opaque options offer a slightly denser weave for enhanced privacy while still allowing soft natural light through. These are ideal for street-facing rooms or ground-floor windows.
Design and finish options
Sheer curtains can be customised to complement your interior design scheme.
- Wide range of fabric colours, textures and patterns
- Single or double panel configurations
- Floor-length, sill-length or puddle styles
- S-fold, pinch pleat, pencil pleat or eyelet heading options
- Coordinating or contrasting tiebacks and hardware
- Custom sizing for a precise, tailored fit
Our consultants can assist in selecting fabrics, heading styles and finishes that align with your decor and functional needs.
Heading styles
The heading style determines how your sheer curtains hang and move, influencing both the look and functionality of the finished installation.
S-fold (wave fold)
S-fold sheers create a smooth, continuous wave pattern that delivers a modern, streamlined appearance. This is one of the most popular heading styles for contemporary interiors.
Pinch pleat
Pinch pleat headings create structured, tailored folds that suit both classic and modern settings. Available in single, double or triple pinch options.
Pencil pleat
Pencil pleat headings produce tightly gathered folds for a traditional, full-bodied look. This style works well in formal living areas and bedrooms.
Eyelet (grommet)
Eyelet headings feature metal rings that slide directly onto the curtain rod, creating uniform, relaxed folds. This is a popular choice for casual and coastal interiors.
Motorisation and smart control
For added convenience, sheer curtains can be fitted with motorised curtain tracks for effortless operation.
- Motorised tracks for smooth, quiet operation
- Ideal for large windows, high ceilings and hard-to-reach areas
- Remote control, wall switch or smart home integration
- Compatible with Google Home, Alexa and other automation systems
- Scheduling and scene control for coordinated window treatments
Motorised sheers are a practical upgrade for homes seeking a modern, hands-free living experience. Learn more about our full range of motorised blind options.
Care and maintenance
Sheer curtains are designed to be low-maintenance and long-lasting.
- Most sheer fabrics can be gently machine washed or hand washed
- Regular light vacuuming or dusting keeps sheers looking fresh
- Avoid harsh chemicals or high-heat drying
- Professional cleaning is recommended for delicate or oversized panels
- Quality fabrics retain their appearance and drape over time
